I am so grateful to be sober today. I’m grateful for time with my family, for drives down the beach and for meetings anywhere you go. I’m grateful for conversations with my sponsor, for reminders of how different things are, for sunsets, for always being together even when we're apart and for taking the day off today.
Hello friends!
Happy Monday and as always, I hope you had a wonderful weekend :)
Coming at yah live from New Jersey this morning! I have been here since yesterday to spend some time with my family and for a dentist appointment where I will be asked for the 35845645th time in my life if I’ve been flossing.
One of my favorite things about visiting here is driving down the beach, especially in the winter. As someone who grew up on the Jersey Shore, the beach in the summer is a nightmare. But in the winter, the speed limit goes back to 35mph on Ocean Ave., there’s no traffic and it’s so incredibly peaceful.
While visiting, I also went to a lovely meeting at a place that is very full circle for me.
When I speak at meetings, I tell a story about how looking back, I can see that I was born an alcoholic. When I was in summer camp in elementary school, I told a lie to a camp counselor and this little girl who knew I was lying, turns to me and says, “You’re a liar”. I was horrified about being called such a thing, not because she was right but because how dare she call me such a thing.
When I was in kindergarten, I fell on the playground and cut my leg. The teachers paid so much attention to me that the next day, I was dragging my leg across the pavement to try and make it look like I fell again, so they would give me an equal amount of attention. Until one of the teachers saw what I was doing…
So, to me, it’s very clear that I was born an alcoholic and behaved like one for many years prior to my first drink. I bring this up however, because the AA meeting I went to was in the cafeteria of the very same place that I went to kindergarten… full circle.
Moments like those are my Higher Power at work to me. And the fact that I can go to a wonderful meeting anywhere I travel to is a part of the magic of AA.
So, I hope everyone has a fabulous start to their week and I will see you again on Thursday!
P.S. We’d love to hear and answer any sobriety or AA questions you may have :) Always fell free to ask in the comments!
xx
