I’m grateful for a great November. I’m grateful for chances to help other alcoholics. I’m grateful for people who share their stories honestly and openly. I’m grateful to understand the real work. I’m grateful for a grateful heart. I’m grateful to be sober today.
I don’t know if you noticed, but we are officially in the tail-end of 2022—and I’m not sure how that happened, but would love to hear any and all explanations. One thing I worry about is the volume of the writing we do here. I know it can be a lot and try to be respectful because I know this lands in your inbox every day. We launched the Saturday Gratitude Round-Up a few weeks ago—with links to everything we published that week, and I’ve finally added a tab on the main page that cleverly says, “Weekly Digest.” If you’ve not studied the Saturday Gratitude Round-Up, here is the most recent example:
I always hate to see subscribers leave and I know there can be a lot of reasons, but if one of them is that there is just too much stuff landing in your inbox, you can do two things to change that situation for the better.
First, you can manage your subscription and select to receive only the Weekly Digest, if you’d like. Go into settings, click “Manage Subscription” and you’ll see this:
Just uncheck the boxes next to the things you don’t want to receive!
I feel better having covered that. Another way would be to download the Substack App. It’s free, it’s great and there is a whole world of great writers on there. Also, this just looks so much nicer on the app.
Seriously, there are so many great things to read on Substack, here are a few of my recent favorites:
Holly Rabalais writes “Release and Gather” and I loved her Quarterly Round-Up:
I also love S.E. Reid’s “Wildroot Parables” and thought “First Monday,” her devotional for Advent, was just beautiful. I was really struck by this line:
“No object is holy on its own, but each can be a vessel for God’s grace. All it takes is an open door, a willingness to see with a child’s eye.“
I’m also a big fan of “Dear Reader, I’m Lost” and I love this use of the new “Letters” feature on Substack.
You can also look forward to a new installment of Jane’s always excellent Growing Pains: Sober Girls Edition this afternoon!
Thanks for Letting Me Share
Lovely post, T.B.D. - it's useful to know about the subscription options (I pick ALL of them) - and thank you for your shout-out and very kind link to my first Substack 'letter'! I'm looking forward to my exchanges with Terry (and am wondering what his reply will bring)! It's a bit of a sidestep, but we thought we'd have a go! 😃
