I’m grateful for a trip to London with my daughter and her husband. I’m grateful for an aisle seat. I’m grateful for what can happen. I’m grateful for seeing what love and honesty can produce. I’m grateful for fourth, fifth and sixth chances. I’m grateful to be sober today.
Greetings from across the pond! My very intrepid daughter proposed a trip to London for the week after Christmas and here we are. Owing to my son-in-law’s connections, we’re set up in a pretty swanky, pretty authentic English club. At least I think so. The kids fly back at the end of the week, but the party doesn’t stop there for TBD—it’s on to the City of Light for a few days before reporting for duty back at Sober HQ.
I could go on at length at what this represents for me and my daughter, how it shows that repair is possible, but I think you get the picture. I’m excited to be here, have my old, dog-eared, very marked up London A-Zed—there are some pretty excellent bookstores over here. Worry not, the Gratitude List will continue unabated—but they may tend to be shorter over the next few days. In the meantime,. if you’re interested in a blast from the recent past, you could always check out more in my “Traveling Alcoholic” series. I wrote this while I was in Stockholm earlier this year and it’s one of my favorites:
