SUNDAY GRATITUDE EXTRAVAGANZA
5 Things on Substack Right Now | Hey, NYT! AA is Not "Faith Healing"| "It's Always the 4th Quarter" | "Anyone Anywhere" AA Meeting | TFLMS March to 1K Subscribers |
I’m grateful for a gorgeous, sunny morning. I’m grateful for a chance to speak at a meeting. I’m grateful for lots of little things, like the pancakes I’m making later this morning. I’m grateful for what I found. I’m grateful to be sober today.
This Week:

Five Things… [ On Substack Right Now]
I think Matt Andersen writes some really great things and he was also a fantastic guest on Breakfast with an Alcoholic! He’s writing a serialized novel on Substack, “Still Life of Desert Animals,” and the first installment is fabulous. If Charles Dickens were a tweaker…
Holly Rabalais writes Release and Gather and she just has beautiful, moving way of putting things. Her latest, “Ayah: The Woman I am Becoming” is not an exception.
Rebecca Holden writes “Dear Reader, I’m Lost.” “Going Nuts; a nature story” is not just my kind of title, it’s really great and you’ll know more about squirrels than when you started.
“Three Things Weekly” has been one of my favorites since I started here on Substack and this one about Spring is just gorgeous and exactly on time! Plus there are beautiful pictures of Paris.
I just found Michael Mohr’s really sensational, “Michael Mohr’s Sincere American Writing.” I thought this, “Misunderstanding Alcoholics Anonymous” was dead-on!
And that segues perfectly to this: A response to Maia Szalavitz’s essay published by the New York Times, “People Deserve a Nonreligious Rehab.” Your Sponsor and I sent a letter to the editorial board of the NYT inviting them to come to some meetings with us and asking them to publish our response: “AA is Not Faith Healing.” Will they publish it? If you read it and pass it on, it won’t matter.
Don’t forget, it’s the Anyone Anywhere Meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous on Tuesday night at 7pm (eastern). This a Beginners-focused, “open” meeting of AA—meaning if you have a desire to stop drinking or just a desire to see what AA is all about, you are very welcome here. Last week we covered the Doctor’s Opinion (here’s more about Dr. Silkworth and his opinion). This week, we’re moving on to Chapter One: “Bill’s Story.” I absolutely love Bill’s Story and if you give me even a little bit of daylight I will absolutely talk your ear off on the subject.) Which is why Your Sponsor and Mine will be our speaker. It’s a “Can't Miss” AA meeting!

That’s great, I’m going to have to steal that.
