Welcome to Thanks for Letting Me Share! I’m an alcoholic living in New York. I’ve been an alcoholic since I was a teenager. I began trying to stop drinking in 2010 and it took me ten years to get my first year of sobriety (My sobriety date is October 22, 2019). I literally tried everything to get sober and ultimately Alcoholics Anonymous is what saved me life. I write about it here; What it was like, what happened and how it is now.
Recovery and sobriety are pretty challenging enterprises and everyone’s approach and path is necessarily different. For me, developing a real sense of gratitude has been a big part of my sobriety. I write a gratitude list every morning and if you hit the subscribe button you can get it in your inbox. I also post them on Twitter and Instagram (@Thanks FLMS). Gratitude is a muscle and I find the more I exercise it, the better things are for me. I keep the archive here and it is conveniently titled “Daily Gratitude Lists.”
I know how important it is for us to share our stories— A friend of mine likens telling your story to standing in a tunnel with flashlight and helping people find their way out. He’s right. Hearing how someone else dug their way out can fan that faint little flame, plant a seed of belief that there is a solution and with some work and dedication and a lot of humility and love, you can save your own life. With that in mind, we’ve also launched a podcast, Breakfast with an Alcoholic. Every week, I have breakfast with a friend at one of NYC’s finest diners. We talk about addiction, recovery and whatever else comes up. And you’re invited!
Anyway, I’m glad you came by,
