I’m grateful for a quiet morning and a cup of coffee on the balcony. I’m grateful for a chat with my brother. I’m grateful for a daughter scheming to get me a dog. I’m grateful for being able to let things be. I’m grateful it’s Friday. I’m grateful to be sober today.
Happy Friday! I’m excited about the next episode of Breakfast with an Alcoholic! My guest alcoholic is Matt Andersen who writes a very excellent newsletter here on Substack:
It was a great conversation and I think you’re going to enjoy it! Here’s something that I really enjoyed and thought you might like it, too:
You already know how much I love “The Captain,” and this snippet highlights a couple of reasons I think he’s so awesome. Number One: Read him talking about these two awards he just won for writing and you can hear the pride and enthusiasm dripping out—and this from a man who has NBA rings and MVP awards aplenty. Number Two: Look at what he’s doing! He’s not making vanity films casting himself as a basketball-playing, demi-god1, he’s writing a book about black patriots in the Civil War. I just think he’s the coolest.2
Thanks for Letting Me Share
I’m not naming names and yes, the first one was so, so much better. I had a three year-old at the time who liked dunking on his Fisher-Price basketball “Hooch” and shouting “Showtime, baby.” Not sure where he picked that up.
Now that you mention it, I haven’t heard from Kareem. I did just check and I can see that I’ve now generated five (5) subscriptions for him. I’m proud to do my part and that’s probably enough of a reward, right?
I have faith you’ll get Kareem on a special episode of the podcast one day.
