I’m grateful for a gray, rainy morning. I’m grateful for Swedish coffee. I’m grateful to see little stretches bring big results. I’m grateful for just not worrying so much. I’m grateful for the chance to do things the right way. I’m grateful to be sober today.
Greetings from Stockholm! I’m currently living six hours in the future and enjoying it quite a bit. First thing I’m going to tell you is that coffee is a thing here, people take it appropriately seriously and the coffee shops are not just selling milkshakes in disguise. These are my people for sure; I’m descended from a pretty much unbroken line of Norwegian immigrant farmers, my grandfather did sell International Harvester tractors and implements, but I feel that counts.1
I swear by these Wallpaper City Guides and also Muji pens!
My intention is not to turn this into a travelogue, although I will be posting a trip report after this tonight:
In the meantime, you should definitely listen to Episode 22 of Breakfast with an Alcoholic featuring Paulina Pinsky of Newly Sober here on Substack. I will tell you that Episode 22 just set the single-day download record here—so that’s pretty exciting!
Stay groovy, I am.
Thanks for Letting Me Share
The highlights of my childhood trips to Minnesota were driving one of those huge Combines. Lowlights included being marooned on my Uncle’s farm and being paid $1 an hour to help pull Cocklebur plants in the soybean fields. Apparently, this work was un-economic unless low-wage nephews imported from Iowa were involved.
I need more info on those pens. And is that a Rhodia notebook under there??
Hahaha! Paulina and I had the same conversation. I love that Rhodia journal although I’m historically in the Moleskine camp. The unbelievably good pens are from Muji—low cost Japanese office and home products. I’m not sure why I’ve not been approached about some kind of brand ambassadorship?
