I was greatly offended by this essay on addiction:https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/15/opinion/addiction-disease.html What triggers my anger is yet another doctor talking about addiction as a disease with implied air quotes: “I know that for some..the disease analogy helps them make sense of those struggles…” (emphasis supplied). I suffer from an actual disease, not a metaphor. I’m glad Dr. Fisher is “in recovery” but what exactly is it he’s recovering from then?
correct. I even found it listed as a disease in a 1934 dictionary.
